  • Wednesday 30 May Go wild training day at Wyre Forest

Discover how to immerse your audiences in the environment through a variety of bush craft activities. Learn  new skills and gain confidence by having a go. The day will also tackle thorny issues like Health &Safety, how to set boundaries to ensure respect for the environment as well as looking at how activities can be adapted to a variety of audiences.  Download programme (word 86.6KB)  Download booking form (word 84.8KB)

  • Tuesday 17 July Inquire training day at RBG Kew, Wakehurst Place

Kew is currently running a 60 hour Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) course for teachers and educators as part of a 17 partner consortium in 11 countries across the EU. This training day will discuss the relevance of the course to botanic gardens and other LOtC sites and provide a number of participative ‘taster’ activities that reflect good practice in IBSE delivery. It is hoped that after the two pilot courses at Kew (2011/12 and 2012/13) – other LOtC sites may want to offer a similar CPD course for teachers and educators in their own area. Come and try out some of the course activities and perhaps decide whether you want to either join the longer course at Kew this coming October ( 7 BGEN members are already attending the first course ) or explore the opportunity to run this course at your own site. • 6 - 9 November - ANNUAL CONFERENCE:101 things to do with plants at RHS Rosemoor - download the flyer now (PDF, 440kb).
If you're really thinking ahead, our 2013 conference will be in Dundee!

101 (amazing) things to do with plants!

The BGEN 2012 conference is at RHS Garden Rosemoor, Devon this year and is set to be a fantastic event.

The programme is taking shape and it is going to be super practical (as perhaps the name suggests!).  The conference aims to help anyone who wants to inspire their visitors about plants, their uses, beauty, importance and significance.  We planning an action-packed three days with tonnes of brilliant ideas on how actively engage visitors within our three strands of:

  1. Investigating plants - explore how we can encourage people to investigate and explore plants
  2. Being creative - explores how we encourage people to use and interact with plants creatively
  3. Growing - explores how we can encourage people to grow their own plants.

The event is suitable for anyone looking to plan or deliver this kind of work, whatever your experience or audience focus.  Think families, think schools, think adults, think toddlers, think colleagues!

We have keynote speakers and session leaders from across the sector lined up including our hosts, the RHS, Cambridge Botanic Gardens, National Trust Calke Abbey, the Chelsea Physic Garden and the Forestry Commission.

Conference early bird rate starts from £210.  Download the flyer now (PDF, 440kb). Download booking form (37kb)
